Short Inca Trail 2 days
HIGHLIGHTS
The Inca Trail 2 days, also known as the Short Inca Trail, is an excellent option for those who have limited time and cannot embark on the full 4-day Classic Inca Trail. This shorter version allows you to experience the wonders of the Inca trail and visit significant Inca sites like Chachabamba, Wiñayhuayna, and Machu Picchu.
The highlight of the Inca Trail 2 days is that you will reach Machu Picchu through the famous Sun Gate, following the same route as the 4-day hikers. The journey begins at kilometers 104 along the railway to Machu Picchu, tracing the breathtaking Urubamba River Valley.
Covering a distance of 16 kilometers until reaching the town of Aguas Calientes, the 2-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu offers awe-inspiring landscapes filled with history and nature. This trek is perfect for those who have limited time but still yearn for a unique experience on the path to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.
It’s important to note that since 2002, regulations have been introduced for the Inca Trail tours. Independent hiking is not permitted, and you must book with a tour operator to undertake the trek. In the past, hikers could stay at a small hostel near the Wiñayhuana Inca site. However, due to concerns about the hostel’s structural integrity and the protection of the natural area, it was closed in 2004. Consequently, all hikers must now reach Machu Picchu and stay in a hotel in Aguas Calientes. On the second day, you will return to Machu Picchu for a guided tour.
